Neck Pain

Your 8kg head balances on a narrow support made up of seven bones called vertebrae. Discs separate and provide shock absorbing between the discs, while facet (hinge type) joints stabilise the spine and guide motions. Ligaments support the vertebrae while the muscles rely on the control of the nervous system for efficient patterns of movement. Because the neck is so mobile, it may be easily traumatised.

A specific injury, or repeated small stresses and postural problems, are the most common causes of neck pain. Underlying diseases such as facet joint arthritis or disc degeneration can also contribute to the pain you feel.
